GREAT SUGGESTIONS BY must87searcher in his message posted: Mar 22, 2010 8:03:22 AM:
"Another way to reduce the amount of driving would be to travel using other forms of transportation. When I go to places, I today travel a little more with trains, subways, buses, or just walk around. Even if I had to use an automobile to the get around in small distances, like to travel to a parking lot, station, or airport, the auto just is only driven at times, less the 10% of the entire trip."
The U.S. needs to make a serious commitment to public transportation. Serious, serious, serious. I am of the opinion that Public Transportation should be free. The result would be almost ZERO traffic, the air would be much, much cleaner within a month and people would get to know their neighborhoods better. So what if you paid more in taxes? How much would you be willing to pay?

1. Drive less. 2. Buy the cheapest gas. It's all drawn from the same tanks. Repeat 1 and 2.

These are old good advices, like wash your habds and brush your teeth - and you'll live longer (not by 25%, though).

Plain vanilla tips for the most part. I don't know that most of us would save 25%.
Saving gas is a matter of looking at our driving habits and the trips we take, and making adjustments. Things like carpooling and mass transit, where practical, make a difference as well.

Good reminders — especially to all those aggressive drivers out there.

Thanks for some good common sense hints. I found tire pressure can alter my fuel economy noticeably. I changed to nitrogen inflation and have found that my pressure stays more constant now.
